REGULAR ANNUAL EVENTS

THE MARSDEN MARCH

Banstead Rotary supports The Marsden March by stewarding the route with other volunteers. The Marsden March is a 14-mile or a 5-mile sponsored walk between The Royal Marsden’s hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton. Over the last four years this event has raised an amazing £4.5 million to help build a future beyond cancer. Sadly, last year's event on 10th March was cancelled due to high winds but we are now looking forward to news of the next Marsden March.

BANSTEAD ROTARY CHARITY WALK (8.5 miles)

Sunday 21st May 2023

(NOTE LATER DATE AVOIDING THE BANK HOLIDAY WEEKENDS)

Our charity walks have been a great success, raising many thousands for walkers’ favourite charities.

Sponsors are able to give online or using sponsor forms in the old fashioned way. For those who find the task of getting sponsors a little too onerous, some just choose to walk and make their own donation.

We are delighted with the response to our walks when there are so many sponsored events  - each competing for the pounds in our pockets.  However, we have been making sure we get the word out and about by using social media and local press to remind everyone about our Charity Walk.

The walk is fully marshalled so that road crossings are safe.  Once the organisation is in place, the more walkers we have the better we love it!

Why not join us on 21st May 2023?  (Start any time between 8.30 and 10.00 a.m.!)

BANSTEAD VILLAGE DAY

Banstead Village Day with the Village Fair will be held on Saturday 1st of July 2023 in The Orchard in Banstead High Street (In front of All Saints Church). Show your support and have fun!

This is a 'traditional' Village Fair organised by Banstead Rotary with over 30 local organisations and charities running their own stalls or sideshows to raise funds. This includes attractions such as cakes, preserves, books, crafts, bric-a-brac, tombola, competitions and much more. Today’s fair is an opportunity for those organisations to promote themselves and raise funds for their great variety of projects, and for members of the public to enjoy themselves and contribute.  The Fair will be opened by the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead at 10.30 a.m. and will run until 3.00 p.m.

So join the fun and enjoy finding out more about the groups in our area.  If you are a member of a group who would like to take part, please contact us through this website.

MONTHLY SPEAKERS

Banstead Rotary will be inviting two speakers a month to meetings, one from a charity, and the other on matters of general interest and intend to run several purely social and fun events each year as usual.

Banstead Rotary is a very friendly Club and is always pleased to welcome non-members to their meetings.

CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS

Santa will be on his sleigh, with music, and collecting for local charities again this year assisted by Banstead Rotary. In addition to visiting the streets around Banstead, Nork, Tattenham and Tadworth for the three weeks commencing December 2023 (dates to be confirmed), Santa will also be at ASDA and at Waitrose.

In 2022 we collected £10,940 which is distributed to nineteen Local Groups and Charities. These include Local Youth Groups including Scouts and Guides; Hospices; Cancer Research; and a wide range of Community Groups including Food Banks, Talking Newspapers, Home Care; and Support for the sick, elderly and disabled.

CHRISTMAS FUN FOR CHILDREN

Christmas is certainly on the way as Banstead Rotary is working with the community to bring festive cheer.

A Christmas Tree is put on display in Banstead High Street and the ever popular Santa Sleigh is being prepared for charity collections.

Trees of light are being donated to five local schools so the pupils can enjoy the season to the maximum!

YOUTH COMPETITIONS

Banstead Rotary works with local schools and youngsters take part every year in our youth competitions which in most cases take the form of local and regional heats followed by a national final. The majority are categorised into junior, intermediate and advanced age groups.

Young Chef

Cooking amongst young people is a valuable life skill. Sponsored by a local school contestants prepare and present a meal within a pre-set budget and time limit, which is judged by an expert.

Youth Speaks

We encourage speaking and presentation skills in young people and this competition showcases superb quality speakers.
