REGULAR ANNUAL EVENTS

THE MARSDEN MARCH

Banstead Rotary supports The Marsden March by stewarding the route with other volunteers. The Marsden March is a 14-mile or a 5-mile sponsored walk between The Royal Marsden’s hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton. Over the last four years this event has raised an amazing £4.5 million to help build a future beyond cancer. Sadly, this year's event on 10th March was cancelled due to high winds but we are now looking forward to news of the next Marsden March.

BANSTEAD STROKE AWARENESS DAY

This will was held on Saturday 4th April in All Saints Church Hall (Banstead Institute).
2020 will mark the 17th year of the Rotary partnership with The Stroke Association. Banstead Rotary once again are bringing this opportunity to Know your blood pressure’ to our local community. High blood pressure now accounts for nearly 50% of all strokes, and yet is easily treatable. We want to do what we can to raise awareness of this and continue to help with the prevention of strokes by targeting some of the 16-million people in the UK with high blood pressure.

BANSTEAD ROTARY CHARITY WALK

Sunday 10th May 2020

The Charity Walk 2019  was a great success with around 72 walkers enjoying the superb scenery of the Downs on our 8 mile sponsored walk.

Our walkers (73 in total) raised £8421 (including Gift Aid). This is a magnificent sum for us and one which will we hope will inspire walkers to join us again next year.   Sponsors were able to give online or using sponsor forms in the old fashioned way. For those who find the task of getting sponsors a little too onerous, some just choose to walk and make their own donation.

The best individual amount raised was £1450.99 while the team which raised the most was from Inner Wheel District 14 - a fabulous £4094 destined for the Motor Neurone Disease Association!  A BIG Thank you to walkers and supporters alike.

We were delighted with the response when there are so many sponsored events  - each competing for the pounds in our pockets.  However, we have been making sure we get the word out and about by using social media and local press to remind everyone about our Charity Walk.
The walk is fully marshalled so that road crossings are safe and First Aid is provided by St John's Ambulance volunteers.  Once the organisation is in place, the more walkers we have the better we love it!

Why not join us on 10th May 2020?

BANSTEAD VILLAGE DAY

Banstead Village Day is our next project on Saturday 4th of July 2020 in The Orchard in Banstead High Street (In front of All Saints Church). Show your support and have fun!

This is a 'traditional' Village Fair organised by Banstead Rotary with over 30 local organisations and charities running their own stalls or sideshows to raise funds. This includes attractions such as cakes, preserves, books, crafts, bric-a-brac, tombola, competitions and much more. Today’s fair is an opportunity for those organisations to promote themselves and raise funds for their great variety of projects, and for members of the public to enjoy themselves and contribute.  The Fair will be opened by the Mayor of Raigate and Banstead at 10.30 a.m. and will run until 3.00 p.m.

The Fair is part of a weekend celebration to mark 75th anniversary of the end of WWII.

So join the fun and enjoy finding out more about the groups in our area.  If you are a member of a group who would like to take part, please contact us through this website.

MONTHLY SPEAKERS

Banstead Rotary will be inviting two speakers a month to meetings, one from a charity, and the other on matters of general interest and intend to run several purely social and fun events each year as usual.

Banstead Rotary is a very friendly Club and is always pleased to welcome non-members to their meetings.

CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS

Santa will be on his sleigh, with music, and collecting for local charities again this year assisted by Banstead Rotary. In addition to visiting the streets around Banstead, Nork, Tattenham and Tadworth for the three weeks commencing on December 2019 (dates to be confirmed), Santa will also be at ASDA and at Waitrose.

In 2019 we collected £9.996 which is distributed to nineteen Local Groups and Charities. These include Local Youth Groups including Scouts and Guides; Hospices; Cancer Research; and a wide range of Community Groups including Food Banks, Talking Newspapers, Home Care; and Support for the sick, elderly and disabled.

YOUTH COMPETITIONS

Banstead Rotary works with local schools and youngsters take part every year in our youth competitions which in most cases take the form of local and regional heats followed by a national final. The majority are categorised into junior, intermediate and advanced age groups.

Young Chef

Cooking amongst young people is a valuable life skill. Sponsored by a local school contestants prepare and present a meal within a pre-set budget and time limit, which is judged by an expert.

Youth Speaks

We encourage speaking and presentation skills in young people and this competition showcases superb quality speakers.

CHRISTMAS FUN FOR LITTLE ONES

Christmas is certainly on the way as Banstead Rotary are working with the community to bring festive cheer.

A Christmas Tree is put on display in Banstead High Street and the ever popular Santa Sleigh is being prepared for charity collections.

Trees of light are being donated to five local schools so the little ones can enjoy the season to the maximum!
