Charity Walk 2019

Sunday 5th May. On a beautiful sunny morning at about 7.15 a.m., the Rotary team began assembling the marquee for their annual Charity Walk HQ on Epsom Downs. The temperature was just 3° as the marquee rose ready for the first walkers to leave on their 8 mile route across the Epsom Downs and surrounding countryside.

Luckily the wind of Saturday had subsided and the 72 walkers had excellent conditions in which to enjoy their fresh air and exercise.

Among the participants was a team from Inner Wheel District 14 raising funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. District ChairmanJan Clarke and her team hope to raise around £2.5k. Walkers were raising funds for their chosen charities or for Rotary. Among them was a team from the Reigate and Redhill Citizen’s Advice group, the local Epsom, Ewell and Banstead Home Start and supporters for an appeal on behalf of Matt Hodges, a young boy with the rare Epithelioid Sarcoma. The Beacon School will be waiting to see how much their Spanish teacher, Connor Diffley will have raised walking for the planned school Imagination Suite. Banstead Rotary hope that this successful event will have raised in excess of £5000 for local charities and organisations.

If you want to be a part of this event next year, the date is Sunday 10th May 2020. Details will be available on the website www.bansteadrotary.com
