Banstead Rotary Afternoon Tea!

The Rotary Club of Banstead was invited to the Hallmark Banstead Manor Luxury Care Home, 8 Brighton Road Banstead SM7 1BS for an event on Tuesday 30 July.

Four staff are Banstead Rotary Corporate Members: Sam, Fiona, Toni and Veronica.  They are actively involved with all our Rotary fundraising projects including the Christmas Collections, Charity Walk and Village Fair: indeed their stall raised a magnificent £196 at the Village Fair which was donated to Banstead Rotary by Sam on their behalf!

Guest of Honour was the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Councillor Eddy Humphreys and his wife the Mayoress Sarah Humphreys who delivered a short speech and spoke to all the Rotarians about their chosen charities : Renewed Hope based in Redhill supports homeless and vulnerable people in East Surrey, offering evening meals, a winter night shelter and support to build a new life. TRACKS Through Pastures is dedicated to improving the lives of young people and adults with social, emotional, and mental health needs through human and animal interaction.

Guests enjoyed a lavish afternoon tea of a wide selection of sandwiches,  cakes, macarons, and a delicious chocolate millionaire’s shortbread cake prepared by the Banstead Manor chef. Banstead Rotary President Jane Illingworth welcomed the guests and thanked Banstead Manor for the generous hospitality. During the event everyone chatted informally and networked.

Paul, the Mayor’s Assistant also attended . He remains a constant staff member in his role as the Mayors change office.

The speaker of the afternoon meeting was Mike Sawyer accompanied by Tim Snuggs

who gave a well-researched presentation on the Banstead & District Branch of The Royal British Legion. He had a detailed knowledge of the subject and he proceeded to enlighten the group on the history of the Branch from its early days to the present.

The Royal British Legion provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

The support starts after one day of service and continues through life. Long after service is over from providing expert advice and guidance, to recovery and rehabilitation through to changing back to civilian life, they can be by the side every step of the way. And it's not just members of the Armed Forces but their families too. If there is ever a reason they can't help, having a vast network around means we know someone who can.

A special thank you to everyone involved to make the event such a success!
