Banstead Rotary Needs You!

Listen to Rotarian Stuart Walker speaking about what Banstead Rotary means to him

Banstead Rotary Club has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years for charity. We give back to the community, both local and international - and we'd love to have you along.

We support and work in partnership with a wide range of charities and projects at a local and national level. By combining our skills, time and resources, we are able to successfully deliver local and national campaigns which have a positive impact in our communities.

Rotary gives everything to charity and we are careful to see that the money we raise goes to the people who need it. The money from our Christmas collections goes to local charities, and we also do fundraising for international needs throughout the year e.g. sending Shelter Boxes to places like Turkey following disasters such as an earthquake, so peoples’ lives will be changed for the better. If you want to give money to charity you can be sure if you do it via Rotary, every penny raised is passed to local charities. We try to ensure that the money gets to people who really need it!

What Banstead Rotary Does!

Banstead Rotary is a relatively small group of community minded individuals from a range of backgrounds and ages. Despite our modest size, we manage to punch well above our weight. In our year ending June 2023 we raised over an impressive £22,000. More details of who we helped see our PAST DONATIONS page.

You may have seen us at one of our high-profile events during the year but never stopped to wonder who we are and what else we do.

Christmas Collections

Christmas is an extremely busy time of the year for Banstead Rotarians. We are proud to be one of the remaining Rotary clubs to maintain a Santa’s sleigh. We brave the winter weather to tour the streets of Banstead with Santa in his sleigh to the delight of the young and young at heart. We are helped by local charity partners who help with our door to door collecting. We also park up our sleigh at Banstead Waitrose and Asda Burgh Heath to provide a cheery welcome to shoppers.

We also supply Christmas trees to a number of local schools. But our biggest Christmas tree, which we select and cut personally, is reserved for pride of place in the centre of the roundabout at the start of Banstead high Street.

Through our Christmas collection programme we aim to raise £10,00 to £12,000 each year.

Charity Walk

In the month of May we put on a charity walk from Tattenham Corner and across Epsom Downs. We supply reception and stewards for the event to ensure its smooth running.

Over 80 walkers usually take part in this annual event.

Walkers begin the walk from Tattenham Corner and are able to take in the splendid views and see the Epsom Derby venue getting ready.

Members of Banstead Rotary and friends acted as reception and stewards along the route, giving support and ensuring the walkers are directed the right way. The main purpose of the walk is to raise money for charity.

Local charity groups in Banstead and the Surrey neighbourhood have always been in the forefront of the walk, and, in 2023, included Alzheimer’s Society, Crossroads Care Surrey, Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead, Diamond Riding, Dyscover, Jigsaw 4 U, and the Ryan MS Therapy Centre. Alongside them were individuals who had raised sponsorship funds to participate in the walk for other local charities.

This year the event raised over £6,000 for local charities. Over the years Banstead Rotary has organised the walk more than £40,000 has been raised.

Village Fair

In July each year we facilitate the Banstead Rotary Village Fair. This year there were 33 stall holders representing a wide variety of local charities and organisations. There is music throughout the day and the Orchard is a colourful delight. This is a hugely enjoyable event which, as well as raising funds for local charities, raises the profiles of these organisations.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead Councillor Eddie Humphries. President Jane Illingworth welcomed him, and Fair organiser Rogerde la Perrelle welcomed the public and the stall holders.

The importance of the event is in raising the profile of local groups and charities. The Rotary Club focuses on the organisation of the event as a key priority each year.

End Polio Now

This is an international project for which Rotary is well known and at Banstead we play our part.  With the help of The Beacon School and Banstead Village in Bloom we plant purple crocuses across the Banstead area to provide a wonderful purple display and to serve as a reminder of the fight to end Polio.

Supporting Young People

Our support of young people is provided through Rotary competitions such as Youth Debates , Young Chef and an Interact Club (12-18 age).

In addition to these higher profile activities we are constantly supporting other charitable initiatives under the radar.

BUT we always want to do more and this is where you could play a part

Get involved with Rotary!

Volunteering with Rotary could be the most important thing you ever do.  Your skills and experience are invaluable in our drive to help communities at home and around the world through our volunteer work. Whether you become a member of Rotary or volunteer your time and abilities to our local club, you will be helping to make people’s lives better.

There are many ways to get involved with Rotary:

  • You could join your local Rotary and open up a world of opportunities

  • You could donate to a club or Rotary initiative

  • You could volunteer to speak at a club about a cause or interest

  • If you are a school pupil, you could take part in a Rotary competition

  • You could volunteer to help the club in one of its initiatives, without becoming a Rotary member

Rotary Membership means access to a circle of new friends and a range of social activities. The motto “service above self” means helping others less fortunate than ourselves both locally and internationally.

If Rotary sounds like the organisation for you and you feel like volunteering some of your spare time, we’d like to hear from you!

Please contact us HERE to discuss your interest with a view to meeting up with local Rotarians at the Banstead Club - attending one of our speaker evenings or social events is a great way for you to get the measure of Rotary and for the club to get to know you.

Corporate & Business Membership

In addition to individual membership we also offer Corporate or business membership as alternatives which are attractive to local companies and its employees.

Corporate Membership: A Corporate Membership allows a corporation or any business nonprofit or government entity to be a part of Rotary by offering an alternative membership package to up to 4 of its employees. Having Corporate Members expands an organisation's network and visibility in the community. Members gain access to the fellowship and service opportunities of Rotary with the possibility of a much smaller time commitment.

Business memberships: Local businesses have the opportunity chance to give back to the community while developing their employees’ personal and professional skills through Rotary.

Benefits of Corporate and Business Membership:

  • Flexibility

  • Affordable

  • Tax benefit

  • Employee’s personal development

  • Networking opportunities

  • Helping the local community

  • Publicise your Rotary membership via your social media profile
