Banstead Rotary Charity Walk 2023

Around 83 walkers took part in the annual Banstead Rotary Charity Walk!

On May 21, the walkers went to Tattenham Corner and made their way on the walk where they were able to take in the splendid views and see the preparations for this year’s Epsom Derby.

Members of Banstead Rotary and friends acted as reception and stewards along the route, giving support and ensuring the walkers were directed the right way. The main purpose of the walk is to raise money for charity. This year the total is heading for £6000. Over the years Banstead Rotary has organised the walk more than £40,000 has been raised.

Local charity groups in Banstead and the Surrey neighbourhood have always been in the forefront of the walk, and, once again they were out in force, including Alzheimer’s Society, Crossroads Care Surrey, Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead, Diamond Riding, Dyscover, Jigsaw 4 U, and the Ryan MS Therapy Centre. Alongside them were individuals who had raised sponsorship funds to participate in the walk for other local charities.

Suzanne, Chairperson for Banstead Rotary Charity Walk, said “Around £6,000 was raised for different charities and good causes and all concerned are thanked by the walk organisers for their involvement. Hopefully next year we will be back for the early May date.

The walk organisers wish to thank the Epsom Downs Conservators for allowing the walk to start and finish on the Epsom Downs. The beautiful scenery with bluebells in abundance made the walk enjoyable for everyone.

Deputy President Jane said, “I wish to take this opportunity of thanking Suzanne, Roger and the walk team for the amount of time they spent organising this grand event. Also, for all the people who did the walk and raised sponsorship, and of course all the Rotarians and friends of Rotary who gave up their Sunday morning to act as stewards.”
