Croydon South Reachout

On Saturday 11th August, Banstead volunteers went along to support the Croydon South Reachout held at All Saints Church Hall in Sanderstead.

Hosts Ian, David and Paul entertained their tables with stories of daring do and their own inimitable badinage while Denise and Roger waited on them all hand and foot! The organisation of the event was overseen by Wendy as usual and there were many volunteers assisting in the kitchen, on the bar and serving at table. We were all impressed with the young people from the Police Cadet Volunteers who worked tirelessly to keep the food and drink flowing and to help clear the tables - young people at their best! There were 70 elderly guests who were transported to and from their homes by a fleet of minibuses. Welcomed with a drink, the guests chose their seats and were served with a meal of mixed meats, salad and potatoes. This was followed by fruit salad or lemon tart, then cheese and coffee or tea- delicious! There was entertainment from a couple who sang songs from the 50s and 60s and a magnificent cake celebrating 21 years of Reachout and 50 years of the Rotary Club of Croydon South. At the end of the day the smiling faces were proof enough that it was all very worthwhile. This was a true example of Rotary working together with the community and it was great to have been a part of this very successful afternoon.
