After our Tuesday dinner meeting on Tuesday May 20th, Banstead Rotarian, Richard Clark gave a talk on Lloyd’s of London. Richard spent his career working in the London Insurance Market at the heart of which is Lloyd’s.
Richard began with Lloyd’s history: trading marine insurance at Edward Lloyd’s coffee house in the 1600s, the development of the subscription market, the expansion into non-marine and reinsurance and the various prestigious locations up to the current 1986 building designed by Richard Rogers. The talk then covered the causes and consequences of crisis at Lloyd’s in the 1980’s, the process of renewal and reconstruction in the 1990s and concluded with a discussion of the future of Lloyd’s in the digital world.
Audience feedback was extremely positive and there were some excellent questions. If you would like to book this talk or one on another topic offered by Richard please get in touch via our contact page.
